Overview

I'm a Professor and Endowed Chair at the University of Kentucky in the Management Dept. of the Gatton College of Business and Economics. My research is focused on social networks. UK is home for the LINKS Center research institute that focuses on the study of social networks in business settings.

My primary research interest is social network analysis. I also have an interest in cultural domains and knowledge management. My dissertation was was on regular equivalence. You can find out more about me here:

I'm a Senior Editor at Organization Science, and an Associate Editor at Computational and Mathematical Organizational Theory. I also sit on the editorial boards of Administrative Science Quarterly and Field Methods. I used to be on the boards of Journal of Management and Sociological Methodology.

I am a past President of INSNA, the professional association for social network researchers, and remain a member of the board of directors. I also founded and continue to manage the SOCNET listserv, as well as the UCINET group. I am also a CARMA Short Course Instructor.

My wife and I also run a small software publishing company called Analytic Technologies. We publish UCINET, NetDraw, KeyPlayer, and Anthropac.

When time permits, I do some management consulting focusing on understanding and improving social networks within organizations. Here's an essay on the network structures of innovation. I also do some work on countering terrorism.
